Verify steps:
Open a text-editor and enter something.
Select the text, right click -> "OpenPGP: Sign Selection" and confirm.
Select the whole text, right click -> "OpenPGP: Decrypt Selection".
You should see the original text and a dialog which says "Verification successful". -
