GPGPreferences 0.9.2
Reported by Charly | December 20th, 2011 @ 06:52 AM | in 1.0.1 (closed)
If the old GPGTools preference pane version 0.6 is still present
in System Preferences, it will not be possible to use
GPGPreferences 0.9.2.
I tried with both items, it was possible to load and even view
GPGPreferences 0.9.2 only once. It wouldn't load again
until GPGTools 0.6 was removed.
If GPGPreferences 0.9.2 could damage the configuration file, it
might have been preferable not to release this version at all, in
spite of the fact that the warning is clear and there for all to
see. Still, hasty users might oversee that warning.
In my system (10.7.2), GPGPreferences 0.9.2 displays correctly my
default key as set in my gpg.conf file, as well as the cache value
of gpg-agent, as set in gpg-agent.conf.
I think this is great work, and I hope it is a first step to
integrate in a future GPGPreferences preference pane all the
settings and options that were available in Stéphane
Corthésy's GPGPreferences preference pane (in fact, a 32bit
application called GnuPG) version 1.2.2 (screen capture attached).
Stéphane had already started to work an a new comprehensive
release that remained in alpha state.
I know this is not critical, and that you have to use your limited
number of developers according to more pressing needs. I can't
help, I have no code writing skills.
By the way, I am still using 1.2.2 that will run only if gpg is
installed, together with gpg2 or not. If only gpg2 is installed,
version 1.2.2 will crash.
I realize this ticket is too long, please edit it as you best
understand.

I've created a ticket for the installer to contain a fix for the several pref panes:
http://gpgtools.lighthouseapp.com/projects/65162-installer/tickets/...The GPG conf problem should be fix in the next release. Already fixed in the code.
We are well aware of the missing features, but since this is a rewrite based on libmacgpg we will be adding them over time. Just give us some more time. :) And if one specific feature is missing very badly feel free to open a feature request anytime you want.
All the best, steve
