MacGPG2-2.0.18-4+1 refuses to decrypt mail/file encrypted to old revoked key using IDEA

Reported by Ludwig | January 24th, 2012 @ 09:34 PM | in 2.0.18 (closed)

Hi,

trying to decrypt a mail, encrypted to my old revoked key 0x57568C1D and using IDEA algorithm, gpg2/pinentry from MacGPG2-2.0.18-4+1 always states that my passphrase would be wrong. However, decryption using gpg 1.4.11 (with IDEA compiled in) is possible.

I'm not sure, whether this is due to the revoked key, or due to using IDEA.

I will try to create a key allowing IDEA, encrypt a file to it, both using gpg1 and decrypt it using gpg2 to test whether IDEA is the culprit.

    Hey Ludwig,

have you ever found the time to further investigate this problem? Quite some times has passed. Let me suggest you give the nightly version of MacGPG2 2.0.19 a try (it has IDEA support by now) from here: https://nightly.gpgtools.org

Let us know how it goes. Should your problem still exist with the latest nightly, please send us a bug report on our support platform: http://support.gpgtools.org

    All the best :)

    Hi,

what I've done so far: I tried to generate a key using IDEA, but gpg won't let me do this. PGP2 isn't available via macports, PGP5 is only for PPC, so way to generate an pure IDEA key is blocked, I'm afraid.

Also, the MacGPG2 2.0.19 nightly does not solve the problem. Same situation as the previous 2.0.18-4+1 (which already had IDEA built in): gpg2/agent/pinentry say "wrong passphrase". gpg(1) can decrypt successfully.

    Sorry for the bad news.

What can I do to help? I'd like to see this issue resolved. I'm an advanced user, can even build gpg2 from source.

    • Importance cleared.

Please set this ticket to "fixed" instead of "invalid". Last MacGPG2 sources from git repository (commit dda84dd47c2b1f5bd0a5f92b32f4b27df4172c33) solve the issue. Switch to IDEA support from libgcrypt trunk was a good idea!
