Reported by Charly | January 8th, 2011 @ 12:53 AM | in 2.0.18 (closed)

  1. Removed the existing pinentry-mac (MacGPG2 Project) from its location at:
  2. Quit Terminal, relaunched it, ascertained that the line was now
  3. Downloaded pinentry-mac https://github.com/downloads/GPGTools/pinentry-mac/pinentry-mac_0.5..., expanded it, and copied pinentry-mac to /usr/local/libexec/pinentry-mac.app/Contents/MacOS/
  4. Quit Terminal, relaunched it, and ascertained that the line was now:
  5. Logged out, logged back in, launched GPGMail, and Thunderbird+Enigmail.
  6. In each of the two above MUAs, I tried to decrypt a saved encrypted message.
  7. Decryption failed, error message included:
    no pinentry
[particulars about the public keys used to encrypt the message] problem with gpg-agent
    no public key.
  8. Restarted the computer, repeated actions as in paragraph 6 above. Same results as in paragraph 7.
  9. Ran MacGPG2 2.0.16 installer, restarted the computer, everything works fine again: pinentry-mac (MacGPG2 Project) pops up, I enter the passphrase, message is decrypted and signature is verified. For the the next encrypted messages, pinentry-mac does not pop up, no need to enter the passphrase, the message is decrypted and verified.
To sum up, pinentry-mac version 0.5 (GPGTools Project) fails under MacGPG2
