Problems with key servers communication

Reported by Chris | November 16th, 2011 @ 09:58 AM | in 1.0 (closed)

With 1.0b1 and b2 I have some serious problems with communication to key servers. I attached my error message. Same on multiple Macs in multiple networks.

I'm using LittleSnitch but all traffic for Keychain Access is allowed.

    Does this happen on all key servers? Could you try different settings (GKA > Settings > Key servers).

    Also feel free to update https://github.com/GPGTools/GPGTools/wiki/Keyservers

    I tried all servers that are shown in the keychain list but all the same.

    Don't know if these are standard in GPG Keychain Access. How can I delete some of these in this list? Is there a list of "good" servers?

    Do you need the protocol before the address in every case? Which protocol is used most HTTP, LDAP or HKP?

    Does Keychain Access connect to the keyservers or does it only trigger gpg to connect?

    Can you search for keys using the command line?

    gpg2 --search-keys gpgtools-org@lists.gpgtools.org

    Ah!!! Looks like a problem with unsafe permissions...

    Sorry for the German error message, but I do not know why gpg2 is German here...

    This should fix the issue:

    $ chmod -R go-w "$HOME/.gnupg"
