Create informative texts and documentation.
Reported by steve | December 27th, 2010 @ 11:44 AM | in 1.0 (closed)
Currently, the texts in GPG Keychain Access are not good for end users.
Most of the texts are very simple and it should be detailed
texts for end users.
In all dialogs should be helpful texts.
Sample:
Instead of "Generate new key pair" it should e.g. "Generate new key
pair. You can use it for sign and encryption. A longer key is safer
but…"

Also, I see there are log messages only in german, maybe need to be localized (english, at least).

Yes, anybody can help with localization. You won't imagine how small our team actually is and if you have a look there are over 100 open + valid tickets ONLY for GPGMail. So if you speak german, please join and help translating. We are aware of that and are doing our best to move things forward.

Hi,
do you still need a german speaker?
I could help you with that. -
Mento May 8th, 2011 @ 12:17 AM
Danke, aber die deutsche Lokalisierung ist das geringste problem. :)
Aber wir können noch jemanden gebrauchen, der deutsche Anleitungen und Dokumentationen schreibt bzw. Übersetzt. -
schneefisch May 8th, 2011 @ 12:30 AM
Ah ok,
I see, probably more german developers than from any other language ;)
My english is not so perfect, but I could start to translate the manual into english or maybe at first write the manual in german?Could you please send me a link to where are the manuals and where I may get active?
Cheers

I think the all project can be found here
by the way, is there some forum/irc channel somewhere to discuss without filling the bug tracker (execept the mailing list)

Wonderful, thank you for the help. There was an IRC but it was not active enough. We're using different mailing lists and this issue system instead.
Btw: we could also need a German translation for the website...;)-- sent from my mobile phone,
please excuse my brevity -

Since I'm not sure if Matthias or Schneefisch are subscribed to any mailing list I'm posting here. Maybe you can subscribe to a list so the discussion could continue there.
ok, let's go completely OT: we don't have a mechanism, yet, to offer localisations of the website. Alex, would you have the time to do this?
If so, cool, let's get started. If not, that would be the next thing to get done and Roman is busy with libmacgpg atm.
For the localizations (which is something completely different than this ticket) the wiki might be a good place to get an overview + we could also discuss there (?). Just create a new section called Discussions or write to the mailing list. I think the mailing list is quite handy to discuss such issues because you receive great ideas (sometimes) and it's very open and public. I like that idea.
@Schneefisch / Matthias: great to see some users wanting to contribute. This is very important. And schneefisch: don't worry, we'll find something for you to work on ;)
@Schneefisch: If you want to create better textes for GPG Keychain Access (GKA) why not start? The thing with this is: you'd have to find bad textes and add missing textes all by yourself. Some knowledge about interface builder might be helpful here. I'd suggest you contact Roman about this ( Mento@gpgtools.org ).
Happy text editing, localising, coding everybody :)
Cheers,

Hi,
I would like to translate the website or the wiki,
but on the website, is there a language plugin?
How to implement a new language there.(Same for the wiki, where to say the same page in another language, or do I have to setup a complete new wiki in german?)
Maybe it is better to open a new ticket, because it moves away from the original topic.
Cheers,
schneefisch -
Alex (via GPGTools) May 10th, 2011 @ 12:47 AM
Hi schneefisch, there is an open ticket for the website about adding multi language support. Maybe you can work together with "Corellian" to work on this: http://gpgtools.lighthouseapp.com/projects/65161/tickets/24
