GPG Keychain error message in OSX 10.5
Reported by Zillo Mab | June 3rd, 2011 @ 08:34 PM | in 0.8.13 (closed)
I installed GPGTools 2 in my Mac with OSX 10.6.7, it was easy and simple, every thing works fine. Thank you for your hard work.
Later I went to my other Mac with OSX 10.5.8. I can say it is a
much harder experience. It is necessary a simple guide on how to
install, each version and the proper order to do it.
I had to guess what I was supposed to instal and in which order. I
don't know if I made it right.
I installed gpg in this order and versions: (GnuPG1.4.9.dmg,
MacGPG2-2.0.16, GPGMail-1.2.0v56.dmg, GPGPreferences-1.2.2.dmg,
GPGServices-1.6.dmg and GPG Keychain Access-0.8.10.dmg).
I created my keys in terminal and everything was fine. I opened Keychain and it was looking ok.
My problem is that I went to the Macupdates.com site saw that there was a MacGPG2-2.17-9 for Mac OSX 10.5. I downloaded and installed it. Wrong move.
Now GPG Keychain says "GPG can't be started! Please check your gpg.conf" and it doesn't start. I installed again MacGPG2-2.0.16 and GPG Keychain Access-0.8.10.dmg but it didn't help.
I want to use it, but don't know what do it anymore to fix it. It seams there is no documentation on the internet.
Please, help me.

I had this problem as well after updating GPG. The solution posted was to update to the latest version 0.8.10 - but the problem continued.
After a great deal of troubleshooting I discovered that when I opened Mail, somehow a random Smart Group entry from Address Book was being posted to the end (concatenation) of the gpg.conf file in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf which tripped a GPG configuration error prohibiting GPG from executing.
Removing all of my Smart Groups and deleting the gpg.conf resolved the problem (the conig file is rebuilt). Don't forget to check and make sure that OSX hasn't migrated
~/Library/Mail/Bundles/GPGMail.mailbundle to
~/Library/Mail/DisabledBundles/GPGMail.mailbundle as well as it is like to do once there is a problem.- Gil
