Unable to use a private keyserver
Reported by Quinn Mahoney | November 30th, 2017 @ 09:46 PM | in 1.4.1 (closed)
I'm unable to use our internal keyserver, which is SKS version 1.1.6. When I add the server in preferences, I get a "Bad key server" error.
It appears that 'testKeyserver' checks a key server by searching for a key that matches "0x00000000". On a public keyserver, this returns some results. e.g. pgp.mit.edu:
$ gpg --keyserver hkps://pgp.mit.edu --search-keys 0x00000000
gpg: data source: https://pgp.mit.edu:443

However, this returns an error with our internal server, which has no matching keys:
$ gpg --keyserver hkp://pgp.internal.company.com --search-keys 0x00000000
gpg: error searching keyserver: No data
gpg: keyserver search failed: No data
I found this commit that added the "0x00000000" test, but I
haven't tried to fix it myself:

All the best,
