Can't import keys from server

Reported by Andrey | March 11th, 2011 @ 08:44 PM | in 1.1 (closed)

Hi!
First i'd like to thank you for such a great product!

And here's my question.
I am trying to grab public keys from our corporate keyserver. I do it using GPG Keychain access. Latest version. All i get is "Nothing imported!" message. Though it finds the correct key...
I tried to import the keys from the command line

MacBook-Andrey-Putincev:.gnupg andrey$gpg --keyserver ldap://keys.fxclub.org --search-keys
seroukh
gpg: searching for "seroukh" from ldap server keys.fxclub.org
(1) Seroukh Sergey Anatolievich seroukh-sa@fxclub.org

      2048 bit DSA key 672A248A, created: 2010-03-18

Keys 1-1 of 1 for "seroukh". Enter number(s), N)ext, or Q)uit > 1
gpg: requesting key 672A248A from ldap server keys.fxclub.org
gpgkeys: key DC93C859672A248A not found on keyserver
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
gpg: Total number processed: 0

But then i do it like this (i just copy the key ID)

MacBook-Andrey-Putincev:.gnupg andrey$ gpg --recv-keys --keyserver ldap://keys.fxclub.org 672A248A
gpg: requesting key 672A248A from ldap server keys.fxclub.org
gpg: key 672A248A: public key "Seroukh Sergey Anatolievich seroukh-sa@fxclub.org" imported
gpg: no ultimately trusted keys found
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1

And the requested key appears in my keychain. What am i missing? I assume gpg doesn't recognise long/short ID's? what can i do with that issue?

Thanks,
Andrey

Sorry, i'm using Mac OS 10.6.6 (64bit) with latest GPGTools. Uninstalled, deleted all preferences, re-installed. Same thing

I have the same problem. Since my update to Mac OS 10.6.6 i have Problems with retreiving keys from any keyserver. The GPG Keychain Access tool keeps beachballing for some minutes, and then there is a notification "No keys imported". I don't know, is there a log for Keychain Access?

By the way, the GPG mail plugin has the same issue, when there is a mail with an unknown key.

Importing the key via command line is no problem...

    Hi all,

I think this is Keyserver related. Regarding this, please have a look at:

    https://github.com/GPGTools/GPGTools/wiki/Keyservers

See if you can find a working keyserver. You can adjust this in the settings of GPG Keychain Access and for GPGMail in the GPG Preferences (the old one - to be found here: https://github.com/GPGTools/GPGPreferences/downloads).

    I currently use wwwkeys.at.pgp.net as a keyserver.

maybe... but it was working with the older version of gpg keychain access. i have an older macbook with 10.5 on it and everything, including mail plugin is working just great with the same keyserver.

that would be strange. are you sure you are using the identical keyserver for GPGMail and GKA? it's working for one software and for the other it causes beachballs?

  • Andrey

    Andrey March 29th, 2011 @ 10:02 PM

yes i'm sure. we use our own keyserver for all our people around the world

  • Mento

Do you have the same keyserver configured for GPG Keychain Access, GPGMail and gpg.conf?

Could you try another keyserver? Please try wwwkeys.at.pgp.net and let us know if it is working.

I can confirm serious issues. I'm not able to import any key. Interestingly I can search the keyservers (tested with serveral URLs) and also keys are found. But whenever I try to import, GPG Keychain Access is busy 2-3 minutes then tells me "Nichts importiert!" which seems to be the german equivalent to "Error!".

Mento is busy this week. But we should hunt this issue sincse it breaks basic GKA functionality.
