E-Mail validation dismisses valid email addresses

Hi,
when I try to add my email address to my GPG key I get the
following error:
"Not a valid email address!"
However, it seems that my email address is valid, both according
to the standards
and according to actual mail systems.
My address looks somewhat like this:
=@abcd.de
Are there any concerns that my address is invalid, or could this behavior considered a bug?
