Move "upload public key" to a separate dialogue for key creation

Reported by steve | October 1st, 2014 @ 04:37 PM | in 1.4 (closed)

When creating a new key, asking the user right away if they want to upload the public key, maybe is too many questions in one place (thus overwhelming) and also confusing (the key hasn't even been created).

Propose the following workflow:

  • create new key dialogue (minus option to upload pub key)
  • key get's created
  • after key creation show another dialogue asking the user:

Upload your public key to the key severs?

We recommend uploading your public key to the key servers. It allows your friends to easily find it. After they downloaded your public key to their keychain, they can write encrypted mails to you. The public key is also needed for verification of incoming signed content (e.g. signed mails your friends receive from you).

Warning: Keys can not be deleted from the key servers. They can be revoke but not removed. So keep that in mind when uploading public key.

OK Cancel

Guess with Cancel pre-selected for good practices.

We should add this Info message to any key uploading operation to inform users of the implications of their action. Many users do not understand how key servers work and need a little help. Also introducing a buffer to think about not being able to remove keys will be helpful.
