New install on a Mac OS X 10.6.8 didnt work

Reported by Kasper Hansen | November 12th, 2011 @ 08:10 AM | in 20112227 (closed)

I did the following;

  1. Downloaded and installed latest gpgtools package for mac
  2. After installation only GPG Keychain Access and GPGPreferences where available to me. No other apps. No plugin in either Finder or TextEdit.
  3. Tried restarting, no change
  4. Tried choosing the fix option in "About" in GPGPreferences. After that I can't start GPG Keychain Access. It says "GPG Config Error" and tell me to come here.

Please advise.

I have the same problem as Kasper Hansen. Cannot open GPGPreferences in the system configuration.

    • Assigned user set to “Alex (via GPGTools)”
    • State changed from “new” to “waiting”
    • Milestone set to 20120317
    • Importance changed from “Low” to “Medium”

Thanks for the feedback. I've some questions:

    1. "No other apps": Have you had a look at our screencast at http://www.gpgtools.org/screencast.html? The only "app" is GPG Keychain Access. GPGMail is a Mail plugin. GPGServices is a Service menu. GPGPreferences is a Preference pane. MacGPG2 is (more or less) a library.

    2. "Cannot open GPGPreferences": Have you installed MacGPG2 or MacGPG1? This is the basic library that must be installed for all other apps.

    Please keep us informed!

Maybe these additional lines from the console might help here (having the same problem re System Preferences using MacGPG2 on 10.6.8):

20.11.11 00:49:32 System Preferences[50009] Error loading /Users/fheckl/Library/PreferencePanes/GPGPreferences.prefPane/Contents/MacOS/GPGPreferences: dlopen(/Users/fheckl/Library/PreferencePanes/GPGPreferences.prefPane/Contents/MacOS/GPGPreferences, 265): no suitable image found. Did find:

    /Users/fheckl/Library/PreferencePanes/GPGPreferences.prefPane/Contents/MacOS/GPGPreferences: GC capability mismatch

Just installed this version ( https://github.com/downloads/GPGTools/GPGTools/GPGTools-20111120.dmg ) on a completely new 10.6.8 installation. Could you please remove all your GPG related preference panes and install the linked version?
