key generation with 1.4.11
Reported by Stefan Schneider | January 13th, 2011 @ 10:39 AM | in 20110322
Hi, I'm new to GPGtools. When I tried to generate a new keypair
with GPG keychain access on OSX 10.6.5 with the newest GPGTools
20110105 the process took very long i.e. did not finish after
several hours.
I then manually installed the latest available binary from the
macgpg website: gnupg 1.4.9
With 1.4.9 the process was finished after half a minute. So I guess
it is rather a 1.4.11 issue than a GPGKeychain Access issue.
Thanks
Stefan

Can anyone test this with GPG 1.4.11 from the GPGTools and GPG 1.4.11 self-compilied?

Just installed GPGTools on another machine and generated a key (RSA and RSA). Worked fine.
@Mento: what exact do you want to test with respect to a self-compiled gpg version? @Stefan: maybe you can provide some more information on how to reproduce the issue? -

I wanted to prove that it is up to GPG Keychain Access.
But in this case, it look like a bad installation. -

Thanks for your fast replies guys. I reinstalled GPGTools and tried to create a key (RSA and RSA 2048) by commandline --> same result: when the process is running and asking for entropy input it prints only dots in the console (and no '+' as it would probably show if it worked).
So I too tried to install it on another machine --> It works there. Therefore it must be some problem on my local machine or install of OSX. If you bother, I can provide you with further info, otherwise it is fine with me, as I managed to create the keys on the other machine. Cheers -

Stefan, good to hear your problem was solved.
We think that this problem is related to our installer (so I'm changing the assigned project). Might be related to an error in our compilation of GPG1.

Might be fixed since we're using GPG2 now.

Solved since the new installer uses MacGPG2.
