PGPMail deactivated
Reported by Erik Lindner | January 12th, 2013 @ 03:55 PM | in 2013 05 (closed)
When I start my Mail program, I get the message:
"GPGMail Plug-In deactivated. Ask the provider of this plug-in to get a version which is compatible with Mail 4.6 and Message 4.6"
I'm using Mail 4.6 on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 , and have installed GnuPG Mac OS X 1.4.9 (from GPGTools-20120318.dmg).
It worked well with Mac OS X Version 10.4 .
What did I do wrong? Or forget to do? - Thank you!

Hello,
thanks a lot for sending the GPG support platform link!
For similar requests I'll describe here the somewhat complicated procedure how I could repair my problem.
May be this can help somebody:Via your link ...
http://support.gpgtools.org/... by browsing I found the public discussions http://support.gpgtools.org/discussions
then - via the link
http://support.gpgtools.org/discussions/everythingthen, via GPG on mac OSX 10.6.8 (snow leopard wont work
http://support.gpgtools.org/discussions/everything/4253-gpg-on-mac-...
... I found my own problem:"to fix your Mail.app problem saying that the plugin has been disabled, please install the latest version of GPGMail for Snow Leopard from our website:"
https://www.gpgtools.org/gpgmail/index.html
(get old releases for: ... , 10.6) (Direct Link: https://github.com/downloads/GPGTools/GPGMail/GPGMail-1.4.1.dmg)Via this direct link I loaded GPGMail-1.4.1.dmg, unpacked it and had the tool installed ...
... killed and restarted the Mail program ... didn't work yet :-(Back to:
http://support.gpgtools.org/discussionsvia the search the knowledge base link I found:
http://support.gpgtools.org/kb Here via FAQ (Top 10)http://support.gpgtools.org/kb/faq/faq-top-10 First steps - where do I start, where do I begin?
http://support.gpgtools.org/kb/how-to/first-steps-where-do-i-start-...I found:
Important: The mail address you use, to create your new key pair, has to perfectly match the mail address used in
Mail.app > Accounts (case sensitive).(I use 2 E-Mail addresses which just differ by case usage, which doesn't matter for sending/receiving E-Mails!)
So I went back to:
http://support.gpgtools.org/kb/how-to/first-steps-where-do-i-start-...
and via the link: What if I update Mac OS X? Will this break GPGMail?http://support.gpgtools.org/kb/faq-gpgmail/what-if-i-update-mac-os-...
down to the bottom, under Tutorials: How to associate different email addresses with one keyhttp://support.gpgtools.org/kb/how-to/how-to-associate-different-em...
... I followed the instructions to add one more E-Mail address perfectly matching a further address with just different case usage (s. above!), then again killed and restarted the Mail program ... and -puff- it worked!May be this all could have been achieved much easier (faster), but anyway, it worked!
Best regards, Erik

Erik, thanks for posting your solution. Well the task of presenting the correct information for a specific problem is rather hard to accomplish. But we're trying. The Knowledge Base is a good starting point if you run into trouble.
Best, steve
