Hmm... is the actual user special user or user2? I wonder how the .gnupg directory ended up in user2

It's user2 with a home directory with a space, as you asked me to test: "/Users/special users/user2"

Yeah, I'm only wondering about the user2 part. The username is "special users" so what is the user2 part?

I couldn't get Lion to create a username with a space, so I thought you meant a home directory with a space. I put user2 under "/Users/special users".
Maybe earlier versions of OS X weren't so strict?
Still, the script created the right directory, it just had unsafe perms.

I actually don't know how one does that, we've only had a user who somehow managed it.
I'll have a look at how to do that.
So I think we can close this one.(BTW: are you online? Just wondering because I've had internet problems all day and don't see you :))

Oh no. That error happens regardless of space in user name. I just happened to send you it from that test.
It's probably a script mkdir problem. Any mkdir of .gnupg should set perms as well.

Aah, ok, that indeed changes things. Will look into that.

At least fixed in the sources: https://github.com/GPGTools/GPGTools_Core/commit/9eb3234dcf3e7e8868...
Now we've to build and integrate latest MacGPG2 versions again...
