New installation approach for 1.3.1
Reported by steve | December 27th, 2010 @ 11:05 AM | in 20110322

ported from GH:
https://github.com/GPGMail/GPGMail/issues/labels/C_Install#issue/106
Since the current installation method seems to be a bit unreliable and does not provide the possibility to uninstall the bundle again, I propose to publish a dmg: http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/742/gpgmailinstallmockup.png

the following is all comments on GH as a single post:

time2ride July 30, 2010 | link | edit | delete Why ist is unreliable? I think a .pkg is tht most comfortable way. You can also do pre-installation checks such as "right OS version", "GPG installed", etc.

AlexanderWillner July 30, 2010 | link | edit | delete Unreliable: e.g. #101
-
AlexanderWillner July 30, 2010 | link | edit | delete I see that both systems have their assets and drawbacks - maybe we can combine them? See http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/742/gpgmailinstallmockup.png

time2ride October 31, 2010 | link | edit | delete Just replaced Package Maker from Apple as the application for creating the installer. Now using "Packages" http://s.sudre.free.fr/Software/Packages.html

time2ride November 13, 2010 | link | edit | delete A first version with a DMG is now in the repo!

AlexanderWillner November 14, 2010 | link | edit | delete Wonderful - a big step in the correct direction. Thank you. Next time we should provide an DMG instead of the pkg. Next step: what to add? At least a nice background image ;)

AlexanderWillner November 14, 2010 | link | edit | delete But why does the uninstaller script need admin privileges? My Mail bundle can be removed with user rights.
-
time2ride November 14, 2010 | link | edit | delete This is because it deletes the Bundle if it resides in both /Library/Mail/Bundles and ~/Library/Mail/Bundles. But I can change that. Can we assume the bundle is always installed in the user's library?

AlexanderWillner November 14, 2010 | link | edit | delete I would say: ask for the admin password if it's located in /L/M/B
