A lot of Mail.framework classes have been renamed and prefixed with MF.
I'm working on a version which takes these name changes into consideration.
Most likely all UI code has to be adjusted as well

Thank you for looking at it. Any update already?

Current status: the plugin loads now (a lot of Mail.framework classes have been renamed and prefixed with MF) and the toolbar items are functional. In particular the UI needs work in order to encrypt/decrypt mails - this is not working, yet. Any help is more than welcome.

Decrypting works now. Seemingly even better than before, since the decrypting
is now done using a method of Mail.app which reloads the message in a thread,
performing the decryption in a thread as well and doing all the hard work for us.

Lukas, this is great news. Keep us informed and if there's anything you need some testing done, also let us know.

Update: As you might have noticed, there're a lot of new tickets for GPGMail 2.0 now. This is because Lukas (our hero) has published a first alpha version for internal testing. It already looks pretty neat but still has some major issues. We're very excited about the new GPGMail version for Lion!

Update: second alpha released for internal testing. Looks very promising.

Thanks for the hard work on this!
Email encrypted with Apple mail are automatically decrypted and it works fine, though email that got encrypted with enigmail are not automatically decrypted and there is no decrypt button anywhere. This was not a problem in older versions.

    Is this a known problem?

    Hi Stefan,

    thanks, we're trying our best!

To help debug this, please send us your Console.app log output and if possible an anonymized version of the
email, so we can try to reproduce the problem.
It's not a known problem, as far as i know.

Thank you for the kind words.

    are not automatically decrypted

I assume that it's the issue we've fixed by the following commit (will be part of the next installer): https://github.com/GPGTools/GPGTools_Core/commit/8e6612d3667034556f...

But let's not clutter this ticket everyone is watching ;)

HI I've just downloaded the 2.0a3.dmg and it seems to be working fine so far!

    Great work folks!

I'll be using it daily and will report any issues...

I'm running the latest Lion code compiled locally from the git repository. When I compile the code currently Mail is disabling the bundle due to errors, I've posted the log details from the console.

    Hi Matthew,
please try to pull the latest changes and report back directly to me via email: lukas@dressyvagabonds.com
In future it'd be great, if you could create a new issue instead of posting directly in here.

  • Steve Bell

    Steve Bell August 28th, 2011 @ 02:57 PM

    Hi Matthew,

    first things first

    1) Could you try our version please? No need to compile on your own. 2.0 alpha 3 is available here: https://github.com/downloads/GPGTools/GPGMail/GPGMail-2.0a3.dmg

    2) Please don't report issues in this meta ticket. Rather create a new ticket on lighthouse.

    Thanks and cheers everybody!

    @Steve,

2.0a3 works fine for me, it's a recent issue in 2.0a3+.

    Hi,

I test the 2.0a3 dmg version, It works fine, but:
I can not be able to change the preferences settings in order to deactivate the Composing OpenPGP/MIME.
When I send an e-mail and I cancel the enter GPG key password window, the original message window do not reopen.
In the compose window, if I have the "Priority Field" activated, it overwrite the priority list menu over the OpenPGP checkbox, and is unable to activate/deactivate this last option.

If you need more information, please, do not hesitate to request me that information.

Thanks in Advance, and thanks for your work!

Is 2.0a3 compatible with Snow Leopard? I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Mail 4.5 (1084). I am waiting until some Mac OS X Lion issues are fixed by Apple before I switch over but I was willing to do some testing for GPGMail in Snow Leopard if it is at least likely to work.

  • Steve Bell

    Steve Bell September 1st, 2011 @ 10:05 AM

    Hi Steve (sorens),

GPGMail 2.0 is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.6. We might do a backport but that is uncertain at the moment. Priority right now is to get GPGMail stable on 10.7. But thanks for your offer to help testing. Lion is still a bit buggy for me. Hope apple get's those glitches under control - but that's a whole different topic ;)

    Mr. X September 22nd, 2011 @ 02:25 AM

Hey guys, testing with 2.0a4 seems to be working fairly well - realize that it is still very much alpha, but one comment/request:

    1) Currently GPGMail is overloading the Encryption and Signing icons in the new email composition window. I am one of those unfortunate users that has to deal with mixed clients, some using PGP/GPG and some using S/MIME Certificates. If I turn off GPGMail, then I can use the Encryption/Signing icons for S/MIME - is there a way GPGMail could use a second set of icons instead of overloading the default set?

    2) My second comment would be to have GPGMail behave more in line with the older version (only ask for password when actually viewing a message, only remember the password for a certain amount of time, etc), but I realize that is likely to come as the software matures.

    Luke Le September 22nd, 2011 @ 02:30 AM

    Hi Mr. X,

    to 1)
This has indeed been a problem for some people and will be addressed in 2.1.
We'll not introduce separate buttons, but GPGMail will make smart choices as whether to
    use S/MIME or PGP Methods.
Look through the issues and you should find the ticket related to this issue.

    to 2)
Will eventually be a preference. At the moment this is used to create the little snippet you see in Mail for Lion under the Sender and Subject if not in classic view.

This should hopefully satisfy most users.

    Hallo,
I am using three private keys.

decrypting works only with one of them.

But the biggest problems, that I can not encrypt with 2.0a4.

When I write an email that shall be encrypted (mime) the program says:

Die E-Mail enthält einen oder mehrere Anhänge, die zu groß sind, um sie im Postfach „Entwürfe“ zu sichern. Löschen Sie einige Anhänge.

When I try to encrypt without mime I can not choose encryption.

The mail just vanish and are not saved or send.

Ok, many users tested our alpha version and it basically seems to work - so I close this issue (since we've a usable GPGMail version for Lion).
But we're still working hard on a final release (see http://gpgtools.lighthouseapp.com/projects/65764-gpgmail/milestones... for the open issues). Please download the latest GPGTools pre-release and create new tickets for any issues you find.
We'll announce new versions via the internal update mechanism, twitter, the mailing list and the web site.
